Flame & Thunder 2006 Report
Saturday 4th November

Flame & Thunder 2006 was a action packed end to the 2006 season at Santa Pod Raceway, with motorsport mayhem entertaining the crowds across the whole site.
Santa Pod was treated to sun and blue skies for the whole weekend which enabled the huge variety of vehicles present to all perform at their best.
The Top Fuel dragster of Tommy Moller put in a storming 5.0 second run at lunch time but unfortunately suffered engine damage and didn't run again. The two Fuel Funny Cars, Shockwave and Showtime both came out twice and tried their best but it is a bit late in the year for these types of car and both were unable to put in full speed passes. Joining the pro fuel cars on the strip were a host of cars and bikes from the world of Drag Racing representing most of the sports classes down to junior dragster.
As well as the race cars, there was a multitude of demo vehicles on the track all putting on great shows including the Blue Max Jet Beetle, the Roaring Thunder Jet Truck, the stunt biker Paul Gower duelling with Paul Bailey's Jet Trike, a bizarre jet powered mobility scooter and the mad Michael Kooy on his Jet Quad.
The stars of the jet vehicles were the Jet Funny cars of Martin Hill with Fireforce 1 & 3 and Roger Goring with Firestorm, all put spectacular 6 second runs in. Unfortunately Fireforce 1 suffered a fire during it's evening run which brought the track action to a slightly premature end, the driver thank fully escaped uninjured.
The action continued off track with 3 great shows from the Monster Trucks, Big Pete and the Grim Reaper behind the bank. Across site in the Live Action Arena Russ Swift amazed the crowds in the new grandstands with his stunt displays featuring precision parking, 2 wheel driving and more. This arena also saw some awesome big air jumps from the UKFMX motocross riders and spectacular drifting from some top D1 drivers.
As well as the cars and bikes, Michael Greco and Geoff Capes were on site signing autographs and the Berty Basset hot air balloon made it's first outing for several years. The evening featured two great fireworks displays, a choreographed hot air balloon glow and a giant bonfire lit by Rocket Ronnie in the Roaring Thunder Jet Truck.
We hope you all enjoyed Flame & Thunder 2006 and we look forward to seeing everyone back at Santa Pod Raceway in 2007.
