2007 Event Report & Gallery
With clear skies and an almost Indian Summer feel, Flame & Thunder attracted the biggest one day crowd ever seen at Santa Pod. Over 21,000 fans flocked to the last big event of the season to catch their final fix of the fastest motorsport on earth. The line-up for Saturday was one of the most packed shows ever seen with jet cars and trucks galore, two Top Fuel Dragsters, John Spuffard’s Nitro Funny car and a great line-up of stunt drivers and track displays. Added to the excitement was the new live action arena which now provides a complete off-track show of its own. The event has gained popularity year on year as it also presents one of the finest night racing shows in British motorsport.
Former FIA Champion Barry Sheavills who piloted one of Rune Fjelds Top Fuel dragsters said “It was my first time driving this car and it felt a lot more comfortable than I thought! It felt like it was going to be super quick but unfortunately I encountered massive tyre shake so no records set this time!” Barry was the first driver in Europe to break the 300mph barrier and has not competed competitively since 2002. “Things are looking good and I’m still hoping for sponsorship to secure a drive for 2008”.
Also, taking to the floodlit ¼ mile strip was Northamptonshire based John Spuffard in the Showtime Funny Car. “It’s a low pressure event for us, but what a way to end the season – a great show and a great crowd. We’ve been really pleased with our new car this year and we’re already looking forward to next season. Our first outing will be at Santa Pod’s Easter Thunderball and we also plan to run at the two UK FIA Championship rounds in May and September”.
Santa Pod Raceway has now released its full calendar of events for 2008 which can now be found on the Calendar page.
In 2008:
At Santa Pod we pride ourselves on delivering exciting events which are good value for money and our local visitors are especially important to us. To that end, we would like to announce an additional Fireworks event for 2008 which will take place on Wednesday 5th November. This new event will be called Fireworks Frenzy and will cater primarily for our local residents and those just wanting to come for the evening. We’ll present an exciting show of stunts and displays in the Live Action Arena, a large bonfire and a huge fireworks display.
The annual Flame & Thunder show will still take place on Saturday Nov 1st. Day and weekend tickets only will be available for this event. The evening ticket will no longer be available.
